Every January, my patients know their first visit looks a little different. We look back at the previous year and identify successes in three areas: mindset, metabolism, and movement. This step matters because many patients struggle to see, acknowledge, and feel good about the progress they’ve made. They’re often focused on a future version of themselves they haven’t reached yet and miss what they’ve already done well, especially when growth came from learning through challenges. Part of my role is helping them see those moments clearly, so they can recognize, I did make progress. From that place, we set goals in each of these three areas for the year ahead and return to them throughout 2026 to ask a simple question: are we moving forward?
More often than not, metabolism is where we start. What we eat shapes so much of how the body functions, and it’s one place change can begin immediately. Not next week. Not next month. With the very next meal.
Every meal sends a signal to your metabolism—build or break down, energize or drain, repair or inflame. You’re not just eating for today. You’re training your future self. Each choice you make trains your metabolism toward the version of you you’re becoming, one meal and one day at a time.

This week, choose one small eating decision you can make consistently. Cook one real meal at home, skip a snack that drains your energy, or end your day with water instead of sugar. Let that single choice be your starting point. One decision, repeated, begins training your metabolism in a new direction.
